About the Commanderie
“To ever expand our love of the wines of Bordeaux and our appreciation of the vignerons.”
Founded in 1957, the Commanderie de Bordeaux à New York is a chapter of the Commanderie de Bordeaux aux États-Unis d’Amérique, part of a worldwide fellowship devoted to the appreciation of the wines of Bordeaux — and to expanding, together, our knowledge of its wines, its vignerons, and its table. Our Commandeurs — enthusiasts and collectors drawn from New York and beyond — gather through the season for dinners of serious wine and good company — vertical tastings, château evenings with visiting winemakers, members’ own cellars at our BYO dinners, and the traditions of the table kept as they should be.
The chapter is led by its officers — the Maître and the offices of the Commanderie — and its dinners are held at New York’s finest tables.
The season
Evenings built around a single great estate — often in the company of the winemaker — with vintages poured across decades.
Commandeurs bring treasures from their own cellars — the most personal evenings of the season.
The season’s marquee evenings — galas and celebratory dinners — where new Commandeurs are welcomed by intronisation.
Membership
Membership in the Commanderie is by invitation, upon the sponsorship of current Commandeurs. Candidates typically join us at dinners as guests of their sponsors, are proposed to the Membership Committee, and — in the tradition of the Commanderie — demonstrate their devotion to, and knowledge of, the wines of Bordeaux before intronisation.
If you share our love of all things Bordeaux and would like to be considered, the surest path begins with a Commandeur you know — or a note to the chapter introducing yourself.
